Names- Anna & Paul
Locations- USA & Scotland
How did we meet- Paul and I met through the app discord through a mutual friend. We got added to a call together and we instantly hit it off. We talked everyday from then on.
Who made the first move- We both confessed at the same time lol, while I was trying to get the words out of my mouth, Paul said them for me.
Our first date- Our first date was the day we met for the first time in person in Scotland. We walked around the town for an hour or two looking for a nice restaurant to go to but all of the restaurants were booked out fully. So we decided finally to go to Five Guys for our first date and it was better than any fancy restaurant. We had the best night talking and eating fries.
How long have we been together- We have been together for 1 year and 4 months, our anniversary is 5/27/2019
A major challenge in our relationship- A major challenge in our relationship is communicating our feelings.
How we settle disagreements- We settle disagreements by giving eachother time and talking it out once it is settled down.
Dealing with cultural differences- we don't really have any.
Memorable trip together- We have only had one trip so far, but Christmas 2019 will be our second. The trip to Scotland was magical because it was our first time meeting each other. So we went all out with everything and probably spent way too much money and had the best times of our lives with each other.
When and how we will close the distance- We don't exactly know when we will close the distance, we are hoping in a few years. We will close the distance by having Paul get his green card and moving in together in America.
Any words of advice- It is really hard to be in a long distance relationship but is totally worth it. In the end you trust each other a lot more and learn to deal with hard times easier.
Maria & Alex
Brazil & Netherlands
How did you two meet?
We met each other by accident in a bar in Alex’s hometown in the Netherlands. Maria came to the Netherlands to visit her sister, who studied in the same town as where Alex lived, and we randomly met each other in a bar. Maria didn’t speak English. Alex is half Spanish and he has been raised bilingual in Spanish and Dutch. Spanish and Portuguese are similar, so it was a big coincidence that we were able to communicate. We did have to use a lot of Google Translate during our first dates :p
Who made the first move?
It was pretty both sides. We had some eye contact and started to talk to each other and to each other's group of friends.
Tell us about your first date.
Our first date was a lunch where Alex actually came 20 minutes early in order to be sure that he’s on time, while Maria was 45 minutes late :p. Poor Alex was waiting for an hour for Maria to arrive on our first date.
How long have you been together?
For around 1 year and 3 months now
What has been one major challenge in your relationship?
Trying to fight the pains of missing each other in our daily lives.
How do you settle disagreements?
We tend to talk about it until we solve the disagreement together and we both feel satisfied.
If you are from two different cultures, how do you deal with the cultural differences?
It’s fun to learn about the cultural differences between us. Since Alex is half Spanish and thus half of his family is from Spain, he is familiar with Maria her culture. Brazil and Spain have pretty similar cultures.
Any memorable trips together?
The most time we spent together was 10 weeks. This time we did so many different activities and went to both Spain and the Netherlands. We loved our time together and it really felt as if we had finally closed the distance...
When and how do you plan to close the distance?
Probably in February 2021
Any words of advice for other LDR Couples?
Distance can never be strong enough to break real love. Please don’t give up and talk with each other in order to try and settle differences!
